You told us their stories.
The judging panel of local taste-makers deliberated.
Votes were tallied.
And on Wednesday night, in celebration of Convert Man’s launch in Hayes Valley and sponsored by PACT, a boisterous group assembled to witness the CONVERT MAN OF THE YEAR crowned!
The entire team at Convert Man would like to take this time to thank you for the incredible effort put in through submissions highlighting the amazing guys in the Bay Area who are making a difference. We are in awe of every individual who was nominated and applaud them for going above and beyond on a daily basis in order to improve our world. While we can’t name them all as winners, our appreciation for their efforts is immense.
With your help, we were able to send a list of incredible nominees to our stellar lineup of judges who killed it! Thank you to Sarah Sung, UrbanDaddy’s SF editor, Kristen Philipkoski, a top Bay Area lifestyle & fashion freelancer, Cecilia Culverhouse contributor to sustainable fashion & lifestyle site, Ecouterre, and Tony Bravo, a regular contributor to SF Chronicle and SF Gate’s style blog, Unzipped, for your time and expertise.
The Top 3 Finalists for Convert Man of the Year came down to: Shawn Higgins, Colin Dwyer, & Marcus Chairez. All incredible dudes doing incredible things, they didn’t make the judging process easy. Each guy, in their own way, is changing the world for the better.
Shawn, a leader in the sustainable jewelry industry, is a pioneer for the environment.
Colin, an ocean preservationist, works on a local and international level in his mission to raise healthy ocean awareness.
Marcus, co-founder of a non-profit focused on providing creative events for at-risk youth, is helping shape community pride and positivity.
In the end, however, there can only be one. The judges have spoken and we are thrilled to announce that Colin Dwyer is Convert Man of the Year 2014!
Colin is a Bay Area native, celebrated surfer, and passionate activist for the environment – as we learned through the compelling public nominations he received. Colin brings the importance of ocean conservation to a local level through engaging his students at surf camp and local schools with ways they can reduce their carbon footprint and improve the world we live in. His efforts don’t stop there. As one of the 24 surfers selected across the globe to surf in big wave contest, Titans of Mavericks, Colin’s mission to protect the ocean and its creatures reaches an international level, as he serves as an ambassador for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, a global leader in ocean conservation awareness. Congratulations, Colin! You are the first ever Convert Man of the Year!
Thank you again to everyone who submitted nominations, every single one of Convert Man of the Year’s nominees, PACT for their generous sponsorship, our wonderful judges, and everyone who came out to celebrate the launch of Convert Man in Hayes Valley!
Until next year!
